Martin Ashley became a lawyer in 1977 and went to work for the State of Illinois doing criminal prosecution appeals. He became district office manager a couple of years later, but after several years of practice felt that his legal work was not contributing significantly to society. He resigned and went off in search of some new kind of work.

After traveling for a few months, he decided to attend massage school. He graduated from massage school in 1984. Since that time he has practiced massage in a number of locations in five different states, has established full-time and part-time massage practices, and has lectured and given workshops at massage schools. He also maintained his legal career, teaching legal writing at the University of Florida Law School and working as a family law attorney in Somers, New York. (Attorney website)

Massage: A Career At Your Fingertips was first published in 1992 by Station Hill Press. It was republished in 1994 by Enterprise Publishing. The second, third, fourth and fifth editions are published by Enterprise Publishing.
